A Bushwick, Brooklyn homeowner wanted to finish their basement into a playroom for a newborn baby, but there was water seepage and mold on their sheet rock. Fearing the unsafe environment, they contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems to fix the mold problem and make their basement safe and dry. Inspector Collin Peare found that water had been seeping into the basement for six months from the floor wall joint and the stone foundation wall. This problem needed to be fixed permanently, so a long-term solution was necessary before finishing the basement.
Quality 1st installed WaterGuard – a piping system specifically engineered to solve basement water problems effectively. WaterGuard will never clog will soil, and sits on the top of the footing, allowing the large holes to accept water from the path of least resistance. The WaterGuard system has a special wall flange that creates a neat space between the floor and wall to drain water seepage. Next, a TripleSafe sump pump system was installed. The TripleSafe is the most technologically advanced sump system available to home owners. It has three pumps and a battery backup, ensuring that if the power goes out during a heavy rainstorm, the sump pump will still pump up to 12,000 gallons of water on one fully charged battery. The new SaniDry XP basement air filtration system will take up to 110 pints of water per day out of the basement and filter mold spores and dust mite droppings. These common allergens will no longer be a problem in the basement, making it a healthy space for a newborn child.
EverLast Wall Restoration was a perfect solution to restore mold damaged walls. Because of its inorganic material, it is not affected by water, dampness, or moisture and does not promote mold growth. EverLast saves the homeowners money because only the bottom half of the wall is replaced. There is no drywall, wood or paint to get ruined in case it gets wet. Instead, EverLast is a cement board, covered with a textured washable vinyl finish with a plastic trim. ThermalDry Basement Flooring was used over the slab floor to give the homeowner a finished basement floor. ThermalDry tiles are 12 inch modular tiles that interlock – their raised pegs suspend them from the basement tile, allowing the floor to breathe. If there is ever a leak in the basement, ThermalDry tiles can be removed, dried out, and reinstalled without having to be replaced. This will save money and give the homeowner peace of mind. Now, their basement is completely waterproof with a lifetime, transferrable warranty. They can now entertain friends and allow their newborn child to play safely without fear of mold or basement flooding.
