Our Basement Waterproofing System

Our patented basement waterproofing system is a permanent solution to your wet basement troubles. The system consists of an interior drainage channel, a high-volume sump pump and an exterior French drain.

Basement Waterproofing in Staten Island

A shallow trench is jack hammered into the perimeter of your basement and the interior drainage channel is laid in the trench. The drainage channel contains any water entering your basement and drains it to a sump pump. The sump pump pumps any water in the basement out and away from your home through the exterior French drain.

After everything is installed, the interior drainage channel is cemented over and the sump pump pit is capped. You never see the system working but it keeps your basement permanently dry. We also install a basement dehumidifier. The energy-efficient dehumidifier maintains the relative humidity of the basement, keeping it low enough to prevent mold growth and rot.

All the materials and products we use in our waterproofing system are the highest quality you’ll find in industry. The interior French drain is a patented steel design rather than the plastic corrugated pipe most basement contractors use. The sump pump has a backup pump as well as battery-powered pump. Our basement waterproofing system comes with a lifetime, dry-basement warranty. The warranty is transferable to a new owner in case you decide to sell your home.

Incorrect Methods of Basement Waterproofing

We chose to develop an interior basement waterproofing system for a reason. It is the best option. Two unrecommended basement waterproofing methods you may hear of are exterior waterproofing and interior sealants.

Exterior Basement Waterproofing

Exterior waterproofing involves applying a rubber epoxy or other sealant on the exterior of the basement wall. The sealant prevents any water from penetrating the basement wall and is very effective. This method is perfect for new home construction. But, for already built homes, this requires excavation around the entire perimeter of the house. Such excavation quickly becomes prohibitively expensive, not to mention to the destruction of your yard and driveway.

Interior Basement Sealing

You will also run into basement companies offering interior basement sealing. Similar to exterior sealing a rubber, tar or hydraulic cement is applied to the interior of the basement walls. This is a silly and ineffective method of basement waterproofing. The water in soil surrounding the basement will permeate through the porous cement walls. When it presses up against the sealant the hydrostatic pressure will force the sealant to peel off the wall.

Staten Island Crawl Space Repair

Many Staten Island homeowners are dealing with wet or damp crawl spaces. The good news is that we can solve the problem with our crawl space encapsulation system.

Crawl Space Repair in Staten Island

First, the crawl space is sealed off from outside air. The vents are closed off and a sealable crawl space entrance is installed. Rigid foam insulation is added to the crawl space floor and walls. Afterwards, a thick vinyl vapor barrier is laid on top of the insulation. A crawl space sump pump is installed after grading the soil. Last crawl space dehumidifier is setup in the crawl space.

The sealed crawl space is now free from humid outside air. The vapor barrier prevents moisture entrance and if there is a leak upstairs the sump pump remove water from the crawl space. Your dehumidifier maintains the relative humidity preventing mold growth and rot. When complete you have a completely protected crawl space. No more moldy smells or cold floors.

Concrete Leveling & Lifting in Staten Island

If your Staten Island home or business has sunken concrete slabs we have the answer. Rather than grinding down the slab (which weakens it) we can lift it back up to its original position.

Concrete Lifting and Leveling in Staten Island

The process of concrete leveling or lifting has traditionally been called mudjacking or slab jacking. The process involves drilling a series of holes into the sunken concrete slab. Then, traditionally, a pressurized concrete or mud slurry is injected through the holes. The pressure of the slurry beneath the slab lifts the concrete back to its original position. The slurry then solidifies holding the slab in its original position.

We use the same method for concrete lifting but rather than use a mud slurry, we use an expansive polyurethane foam called PolyLEVEL. PolyLEVEL provides a number of benefits over mud slurry. It is pumped through much smaller holes in the concrete. It is also much lighter than slurry putting less stress on weak soil bases. PolyLEVEL reaches 90% strength in less than an hour while mudslurry takes days to cure. Using PolyLEVEL allows to lift your sunken concrete slabs faster and better.

Job Stories From Staten Island, NY
Waterproofing in Staten Island, NY

A homeowner in Staten Island was experiencing puddles of water in their partially finished basement every time it rained. The homeowners found Quality 1st Basements in a magazine and called for a free estimate. System Design Specialist, Jeff Nero inspected the home and suggested the basement be waterproofed. Foreman, Wilver Cardoza and his team installed the WaterGuard system. This system is installed below the floor slab, resting on top of the foundation footing. This drain is installed with minimal invasion, not leaving an unsightly drain around the basement. This system also collects water that seeps through the basement walls and drains it to the sump pump. TrenchLock  Drain Inserts were installed to block unwanted ground air and gasses from entering the basement. The system comes with balls that fit over the drainage holes, which create an airtight seal when there is no water. When water enters the drain, the ball floats to allow the water to drain, sinking back into place as the water drains out. This allows the drain to function without allowing air to enter. To keep the basement dry and healthy, the SuperSump Premier Pump System was installed. This is a great system for occasional water in the basement that is capable of pumping 2,200 gallons of water per hour! Finally, IceGuard was installed outside the home, on top of the discharge line to provide the water with another way out. IceGuard allows the water that is frozen to escape through slotted openings to prevent from any pipes freezing.

Staten Island Home gets Basement Waterproofed

A Staten Island homeowner was experiencing puddles of rain in their basement every time it rained. Luckily, Quality 1st Basements was able to provide assistance. System Design Specialist, Jeff Nero went to the home and suggested the homeowners install WaterGuard to waterproof their basement. The WaterGuard system is a great product for waterproofing because it is installed underneath the floor slab, so it has a clean and finished appearance instead of an unsightly drain in the basement. Next, TrenchLock was installed by Foreman, Juan Garcia to block unwanted ground air and gasses from entering the basement and the home. A TripleSafe sump pump was installed to pump water out of the basement. The TripleSafe has three different levels of pumps to pump up to 11,500 gallons of water. The homeowners were also experiencing water entering through the basement windows, which were rotting out, so EverLast basement windows were installed. SunHouse Window Wells were installed outside the basement windows to protect the windows from rain, wind and snow, helping to prevent leaks. Lastly, IceGuard was installed to discharge water from the sump pump and away from the home. This basement is fully waterproofed and the homeowners are happy and able to use it for whatever they need!

Concrete Lifting for a Staten Island Home

A contractor working at a Wendy's in the Staten Island area notice that they were concrete sections that were sinking and settling causing tripping hazards. Searching the web for solutions he came across our website and read about the PolyLevel System. He was impressed with the way the PolyLevel System worked and decided to get in touch with Quality 1st Basement Systems to request a quote.

Specialist Michael Bonfante met with the contractor, provided a written estimate for him, and a few days later Arturo Jacuinde and his crew were out to lift the slabs and bring them back to level. Penny sized holes were drilled into the concrete and the PolyLevel foam was injected under the slabs. The foam will expand, fill in any voids beneath the slab, and will lift it, stabilizing the concrete. PolyLevel is environmental friendly and waterproof so it will not wash out.

After the installation, all the concrete sections were leveled, the tripping hazards were gone, and this Wendy's restaurant was back to their regular schedule without having to worry about any of their customers tripping and falling.
